Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning in elementary schools is expected to be contextual, interactive, and capable of fostering students' active participation. However, preliminary observations at SD Negeri Karangasem 1 Surakarta revealed that learning activities still rely heavily on textbooks and worksheets, while the use of interactive digital learning media remains limited. This condition affects students' engagement and understanding of renewable energy concepts, which are closely related to real-life issues. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the need for developing an interactive electronic module integrated with Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) on renewable energy topics for elementary school students. This study employed a Research and Development approach using the 4D model and was limited to the Define stage. The study involved three sixth-grade teachers and 45 sixth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques. The findings revealed that teachers require innovative digital teaching materials that can present renewable energy concepts in a more contextual and engaging manner. Students showed a high interest in learning through digital media and preferred learning resources containing videos, images, interactive quizzes, and real-life examples. Furthermore, most students expressed interest in using interactive electronic modules and learning materials connected to real-world issues. Based on these findings, the development of an SSI-integrated interactive electronic module is needed to support more contextual, engaging, and meaningful IPAS learning in elementary schools
