Abstract

This study explores the complex psychological landscape of Kakeru Naruse, the protagonist of the anime Orange, through the lens of Carl Jung's Analytical Psychology. The research specifically aims to uncover how certain archetypes within Kakeru's psyche fuel his deep-seated depression and overwhelming sense of guilt. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study performs a deep dive into the anime's dialogue and key scenes through content analysis. The findings reveal a profound inner conflict: Kakeru constantly battles between his Persona- the social mask he wears to hide his true suffering -and his Shadow, the dark corner of his mind filled with past trauma and self-destructive instincts. This analysis suggests that Kakeru's behavior is shaped by a "purposive-mechanistic" dynamic; he is simultaneously haunted by his past and driven by his hopes for the future. Ultimately, his journey is portrayed as a fragile, ongoing struggle toward Individuation, or the achievement of a unified Self.
