Abstract

This study aims to determine the position of Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta based on the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) theory proposed by Butler (1980). The study employed a mixed -methods approach using Multidimentional Scaling (MDS) .The units of analysis consisted of Kulon Progo Regency, Gunungkidul Regency, Bantul Regency, Sleman Regency, and Yogyakarta City. The result indicated that Kulon Progo Regency is at the involvement stage, Gunungkidul Regency at the advanced involvement stage, Bantul Regency at the development stage, Sleman Regency at the consolidation stage, and Yogyakarta City at the advanced consolidation stage. These findings demonstrated that tourism destinations in the Special Region Of Yogyakarta have  developed progressively in accordance with the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC),reflecting different levels of destination maturity across the five regions
